Amaryllis: Week 4

Wow!
It's finally taking off! I was a little worried that I would end up with a "stunted" amaryllis this year! Whew...! Yes! It will bloom 3 huge blossoms!
What's up with that crooked stalk? I'll just have to wait and see...

Purple Heart

I just realised that for the last 2 tag challenges I used PURPLE making my tags and didn't have a problem using purple! I concentrated on putting a tag together and didn't worried too much about color! This week's challenge was to create a card using the color purple, and believe it or not I just went blank! Purple? OMG! It was like hearing the word "test"! I go totally blank when I hear the word test!
The color purple was chosen this week in honor of Michele, from Purple Onion Designs , who has joined Tag, You're It! for the week! Michele has also kindly donated some gorgeous stamps to give away to one of us lucky taggers. All we have to do to get a chance of winning is to create a Purple Tag! The winner will be chosen by Michele and announced next week.
Easy Peasy!
So far I've been very good about going through my recyclable box of scraps and $aving a tree! I used SU! Heart stamped in Lovely Lilac. I used 3 different color purple cardstock that complements each other, which were embossed with the Cuttlebug Perfectly Paisley embossing folder. I faux stitched around the tag with a white gel pen ~ Santa didn't bring my sewing machine this past Christmas ~ POUT! The tag that reads "Meant for each other." is from DejaViews 8x8 Paper & Punch-Out Tablet, given to me as a Christmas gift from Kristin, niece. Thank you Kristin!

So Very loved

Going back to BASICS! I really love this challenge, except for the part "I think I need more to make it POP!" For this week's SCS's Limited Supplies Challenge: LSC205, we're challenged to create CAS cards. CAS??? Exactly what I asked myself! CAS=clean and simple cards. I learned something today...never heard of this before until a couple of hours ago! I think I've found "my style".
Susan, aka LateBlossom, a SCS Member best describes it by stating: "But for those of us who don't do techniques that require anything like "talent" or "skill," who don't layer our cards into inch-thick confections of pure gorgeousness, who don't have all the latest nesties or copics, who don't have coloring skills above kindergarten level, and who do love to make clean and simple and, most of all, EASY cards..,the ones that make you happy as long as you don't compare them to what the Totally Awesome Stampers are making."
Now you know ~ I resemble that!

Valentine's Goody Bag

CCEE Stampers' challenge for this week is A Valentine Supply Challenge. The challenge is to create a goody bag for Hubby, but you must use all or some of the following supplies; it's really up to you:
  • 2 different designer papers ~ red & pink
  • 2 different ribbons ~ red & pink
  • 1 heart button
  • 1 heart brad
  • 1 sentiment
  • white paper bag
  • sheet of red heart stickers

Hmmm...? A goody bag for Hubby? I don't know what his reaction will be, but I'm giving it a try. I might fill the bag with sweets/chocolates, so he won't think it's too silly. That way he'll just focus on the goodies...I'll keep you inform of his reaction...

I used the following supplies for Hubby's bag:

  • white paper bag
  • 2 different designer papers
  • vellum
  • white, pink, glossy red, pink, pale plum cardstock for heart tag
  • 2 different ribbons
  • 1 heart button
  • 4 red brads
  • 1 red heart sticker
  • 1 pocket envelope made with glossy red cardstock
  • 1 sentiment

Photo Challenge

I got this photo challenge from Tanje at Snuppeline . I am sorry to say that I don't have a lot of cute family photos like Tanje's sweet Maya. Since I just received my very first digital camera back in November, most of my pictures are just about "stamping"...yes, boring and impersonal :-This challenge will make me focus more on "family/friends"!
Challenge:
  1. Open "my pictures" folder.

  2. In the 6th folder, take the 6th picture and post it on your blog.

  3. Write something about the picture.

  4. Challenge 6 new people to join this challenge.

  5. Put a link in their blog to let them know they are challenged

This is the sixth picture in the sixth folder of my picture files. I told you it was bo...rring! This is our "big boat of a car" that Hubby has been totally detailing every little single imperfection that only HE sees!

But why focus on the car, take a look at the cropped scenery instead. Can you see the huge Sahuaro behind the car? I wish you could see more of it, instead of the "The Boat" that rides like "butter"...

Now, for the last part of the challenge, I am challenging the following amazing bloggers:

Oranges

It is time to pick oranges from our tree! We have an orange tree right outside our back patio, and this is the time to start picking oranges. This particular tree is a "juicer", meaning these are the oranges used in making orange juice that is sold in stores. I am sure it has a botanical name, but I don't recall it...
Here I'm filling up our basket with oranges. Hubby and I will juice the oranges and freeze the juice so we can drink it all through out most of the summer. The juice is sweet and delicious!
It will probably take us most of the week to pick all the oranges off the tree. We pick for about an hour or so each afternoon. Most of our neighbors have different variety of citrus trees: grapefruit, oranges, lemons, kumquats
Our community donates the excess citrus fruit to the local food bank. Later in the spring I will post a picture showing all of the fruit collected to be donated. You will be amazed!

Our plan for this coming weekend is to pick grapefruit. You don't need to add sugar to these juicy sweet fruit!

Crop Girls in Peoria!

I am just so super excited that I'm doing the "Happy Dance"! There is a new little store like not even 5-minutes away from home!!! Crop Girls is new in town, and their GRAND OPENING is this coming Friday @ 4 pm!!! I can't wait...!!! "Open, open, open,...!" with my face plastered to their window! I wonder if I can play hooky from work?!?!

Fab Snowflakes

I love Blogging!

While "surf blogging" I found Fab's Big Christmas Card Challenge. Fabrizio's (what a gorgeous sexy name!) Christmas Cards challenge in 2009 is one Xmas card every week. Simply add your card(s) to his weekly Yuletide creation which will be posted every Monday, getting your festive season's card stash full for December! Every four weeks he will create a gallery of all your creations from the previous 4 Mondays.

This week's challenge is week 3 ~ Snowflakes Glorious Snowflakes. Boy, oh boy! Do I have snowflake stamps! It was so hard to choose from... I used one of my very first snowman stamps that I got years ago. I stamped the image on vellum, and then colored the back with SU! Watercolor Pencils (I forget what you call this technique...I'll search & find out). For the background, I used a snowflake stamp from SU! A Merry Season. I stamped with white craft ink and then heat embossed with snowy embossing powder.

Black background you ask? Remember I need 2 or more challenges to create one card! I chose black because this week's SCS Limited Supplies challenge LSC204 is Painted Black ~ Limit: Card base must be black so that you have a very bold, black expanse.

Wait! There's more...the inspiration for the card came from SCS Inspiration Challenge IC164: Lang Calendars. I didn't plan to use the Inspiration Challenge for this card, but when I saw this calendar page, I just had to do it!

Pink Passion

I had enough time for one more card right before bed. This is my second sketch challenge over at Paper Craft Planet. Jessica Fick created the sketch for this week's sketch challenge at PCP, sk012409. In honor of Jessica's birthday today (1/24), GinaK has offered to donate a free stamp set valued at $19.95 or less to the sketch challenge winner! I can only hope...!!!
The color combination is from this week's Color Throwdown Challenge, CTD26: Kraft, Pink Passion & Black. The color combo was perfect for my $1 Pink Passion with Black pipping ribbon from Jo Ann's.
Happy Birthday Jessica!

Thankful Thursday #16

While blogging I came across Mandy's blog Messages from Mandy. Mandy has a weekly post called Thankful Thursday where you leave her a comment on what you are thankful for. So I took a moment to think of something I am thankful for. The moment became days...

I thought and thought and thought...and couldn't really think of something that I am really thankful for. Isn't it sad!?! I know I have way too many things to be thankful for, and realized how I take things for granted on a daily basis. So tonight while Hubby and I were having our dinner, I mentioned to him how cozy our house is. Hubby started to sing some lyrics from a song by Crosby, Stills & Nash, and it finally came to me!

I am thankful for our HOME

Our house is a very, very, very fine house

With 2 cats in the yard, life used to be so hard

Now everything is easy 'cause of you...

Hubby & I have been married for almost 21 years now. We had highs & lows, joys & disappointments, happiness & sad moments, healthy and not so healthy and back to good health, money/no money times, but we have a HOME.

Fishy Friend

I finally had a chance to use my SU! Fishy Friends stamp set for this week's monthly CCEE's challenge CCEEC: "Catchy Name Featured Stamper" challenge (CNFS). One of their members picks someone who has a catchy user name on SCS. This week it is Cindy Motherway's turn to pick the CNFS and she picked Fishlips! Cindy's challenge is to create a card that has a fish or fish lips on it.
I used Our Creative Corner's sketch challenge of the week OCCC, by Jennifer Meyer.
It seems that it's easier for me to combine two or three challenges to create one card...so thank you to all of you creative card stampers!

Numbers

At Tag, You're It! is Numbers, Week 42. Carol from Krafty Pieces, is challenging us to create a tag, any color, any shape but it must feature NUMBERS.
I had to really think if I had anything with numbers, and after going through my stuff, I was able to uncover this stamp set from SU! ~ Circle of Friends: Thinking of You 365 Days, 24/7, Friendship. I also used one of my first Cuttlebug embossing borders, given to me by my friend Karen, for the sides of the tag. As I was going through my stamps I came across the butterfly stamp set Garden Whimsy by SU!...I forgotten I even had this set!
I am really enjoying making tags!

Amaryllis: Week 3

Another week, another stalk? I have a feeling that due to our funky weather, my Giant Amaryllis is ready to bloom. I was hoping to see the large stalks grow by "daily inches"... We'll see what another week of growth brings! Even Phoebe can't wait!

52Q's Fairies?

What do you think?!
I love glitter, shiny stuff, ribbon, stickers...
Of Course!!! I know I may be getting old, but deep inside ME is a little girl that never grew up, and still believes in magic!

Believe

This week's Featured Stamper over at SCS is Lori Craig, aka Stamp Momma, FS102. You need to visit her gallery to see her wonderful artwork!
I chose this card to CASE: Garden Silhouettes. I was drawn to Lori's card because of the color combination and the elegant simplicity.
I change the cardstock colors to blues for winter (even though our weather around here feels more like early summer) and a charm that reads "Believe". I stamped the background instead of using Designer Paper...it probably would have been easier to use DP, but I couldn't find the right DP from my stash to match the blues!

Non-Cheesy Valentine

I've been dying to get back to SCS weekly challenges, and since I've the day off, I'm trying to play catch up! This is last week's Limited Supplies Challenge, LSC203, Non-Cheesy Valentine. The limited supplies are: use only red, white, pink, and black or kraft; limit embellishments & layers; postcard type; no fold; use punches, Cuttlebug embossing folders, etc...

It was a challenge for me because I don't have heart punches or embossing folders. I did use an array of different Valentine stamps, though. As an embellishment, I made a bookmark out of a giant paperclip, that will double as a gift. The bookmark idea was an afterthought from childhood memories. I remembered receiving Valentine cards with a lollipop inserted into the card. I love those cards!!!

The card sketch is from Paper Craft Planet, SK011709. I'm a newbie over at Paper Craft Planet, and this is my very first sketch with them!!!

Sugar Candy Kisses

While "blog surfing" (I hope that's how you say it...), I came across Tag, You're It! It's a weekly Tag Art challenge where you are given a theme to create a tag. There are no require sizes or tag types/shapes to use. This week's challenge: Week 41 ~ Sugar Candy Kisses
I've never done any type of tag art before, and was unsure as how I would use the tag, or why would I want to make one.
After, admiring some of the "Taggers" pieces of art work, I decided to give it a try. I have several birthdays coming up in February, and thought that this would be something different to make and give...besides there is no envelope to toss (save a tree). Now I have to decide who will be the lucky recipient of my very first "Tag Art"...

52 Questions Challenge

I visited Ann's blog and she has this really cool challenge from Emily ~ 52Q Challenge. Each week, Emily posts a new question to ask yourself, which can be interpreted in any way and journal through words, scraps, and art.
I've never have done any true journaling about me, and this challenge will make me answer questions about myself. This past year was a very challenging year for me. I lost my father, and 2 Aunts in rapid succession. I've never experienced death of very close loved ones in my life, and this event has left me pretty vulnerable and scared...so my goal for 2009 is to rebuild my faith and find myself again...
I'm putting together tags which I'm making myself from scraps from my recycling box. The front and back cover for my art journal is from a birthday card I received a couple of years ago... I knew it would eventually become in handy...
Week 1:
What do I wish this year to bring?
To FIND myself!

Week 2:
Am I AFRAID of CHANGE?
Change is Inevitable!

Recipe Swap Scrapbook

Last summer I signed up for several recipe swaps over at SCS.
I have a collection of beef, casserole, Halloween, Thanksgiving, gift baskets, and summer drinks~my fave. Now I'm planning on decorating the outside of the scrapbook...at the rate I'm getting things done, I'll probably get it done by next winter, or hopefully by this spring...!
I really enjoy doing the recipe swaps, and plan on signing up for a couple more this summer.

Bella Rosa Scrapbook

The moment I saw this scrapbook at Vivian's, I fell in love with it! Yesterday, I attended one of Vivian's workshops where we made this awesome 17-page scrapbook from scratch using Stampin' UP!'s beautiful Bella Rosa Designer Series Paper.
Once you are shown how to put a book together, it no longer seems impossible to make one yourself. The only thing I need now is a binding machine...or borrow someone's!
Take a peek inside the book...

I've no idea why this page keeps turning sideways, and I have no idea how to rotate it!!!

Giant Amaryllis: Week 2

Wow! This is one week's growth. I am hoping to get 2 blooms...

Bling Valentine

I did this week's Verve Challenge VLVJan02. This week's challenge twist was to use BLING...I used rhinestone stickers. Also, I finally had a chance to use SU!'s Merci stamp set. I am happy with my card; I like the simplicity.

Whole latte love!

Eileen loves Starbucks! Every morning, she walks into the office with a cold coffee drink from Starbucks...Believe it or not, her Starbucks' place has her drink ready for her for pick up!!! Talk about service...sort of like in Cheers when Norm walks in...Yup!

Happy Birthday Eileen!

Eileen's Birthday

My co-worker Eileen's birthday is coming up this coming week. As a birthday gift, I put together a set of cards for her. These cards were a cinch to put together...I used my Scor-Pal, a birthday gift from my friend Karen, and a CASE from Vivian. I love making these cards as gifts.

Giant Amaryllis

Another Ohlson tradition. My father-in-law Floyd, has been presenting me with a new amaryllis every year. This year I received this giant amaryllis (by mistake, I threw away the info regarding this amaryllis) from Bachman's in Minneapolis/St. Paul. I love this floral, home & garden store. For years, I've been receiving amaryllis, bearded iris, bulbs, etc...from this place. I'm lucky to live in the Phoenix Valley, because I don't have to dig up my bulbs, that is, except for tulips. Once the amaryllis blooms inside our home, I plant it outside in a semi-shaded area of our garden. There it will grow into a lush green plant, and then it will bloom around March/April!
I'm always amazed how fast it grows on a daily basis...I will try to keep track of it and post a weekly picture of my new amaryllis.
Thanks Dad!

Nutcracker 2009

It has become a tradition that my father-in-law gives me a nutcracker every Christmas. This is my new addition to my Nutcracker family. Isn't he cute!

Oliver

I introduce to you our other member of our family: Oliver, 2 years old!
He is the nicest most adorable loving cat! He follows us around the house as if he were a "dog"...by the way, he loves to eat, and play with water, and chew on plastic...Yes...He has a fettish for anything plastic!!! We adopted him over a year ago from a family whose son is allergic to cats...the boy was very upset to see him go, but should be happy to know that Oliver has a nice home and a very nice family who pampers him.
