Much needed REST...

DH and I are leaving tomorrow morning on a much needed 2-week vacation to Minneapolis...and when I get there, I hope to see fall colors and feel much cooler weather! Aaahh...!
I will relax, take long walks around the lakes, and enjoy the outdoors. I want to take time to drink fresh hot morning coffee, have my afternoon tea at a leisurely time, and share a nice bottle of red wine with good company...

Red Bird of Paradise

This is our Red Bird of Paradise (Caesalpinia pulcherrima). This plant is at its blooming peak right now, and wanted to share it with you. The key to its lushness this summer, is that it must be prune as soon as it stops blooming and starts to become dormant.
During our hot summers in the Valley, it's so nice to have something that blooms so colorfully!

Here Comes the Bride

Just a quick card for tonight! Today's SCS Clean & Simple Cards challenge: CAS32 Here Comes the Bride...
The stamp is from Hero Hearts Wedding Fancing Notes. I've had this set for years, and this is the first time I've used it.
I used a CB border EF to embossed the white glossy paper. I then cut around the scallops with very sharp scissors. The half pearls and flower are from SU! Pretties Kit.. The tiny hearts and veil are covered with very fine art glitter.
Now all I have to do is wait for a wedding invitation...

Let's All Get Dressed Up

I had a very busy and enjoyable weekend. Pattie and I celebrated Karen's birthday by meeting for breakfast at Cracker Barrel's (now a yearly tradition), and after breakfast we shopped! Cracker Barrel had their annual Porch Sale - 80% off, and did we shopped!!! Then we went to see Julie & Julia. Meryl Streep is amazing! I came home wanting to cook Boeuf Bourguignon and drink Martinis!
Today was nothing as exciting as yesterday, but finally got a much needed haircut!!!

I finally had a chance to create a card for today's SCS Featured Stamper Shannon, aka stuebner. She has an amazing gallery! I chose this card as my inspiration.
I chose WinoBella to create this card, and learned to do a new stamping technique called paper piecing. I stamped WinoBella on DP and cut out the dress only. I then stamped the image on CS, and placed DP dress over the dress image...sort of like paper dolls...
When I was done with the card I thought it would be a very appropriate card for a bridal shower... What do you think?

Fall Cloche Party

This is my very first blog party and I'm so excited!
Marty at A Stroll Thru Life is hosting It's A Cloche Party.
Please visit her blog for all of the fun and exciting Fall decorating cloche ideas, and for a complete list of all the blog participants.
I don't own any real cloches, but I improvised. I used my Princess House cakeplate as a cloche and placed my Charming Tails Autumn figurine. DH helped me arranged the fruit vignette.
Again I used my imagination and converted a cheese dome into a cloche to hold a pumpkin from Dollar Tree. The leaf tealight was a gift from my sister-in-law Carla. It's 1 of a set of 3

The Secret...

I used Beate's sketch challenge WSC96 to create this card. I love the soft colors I used. Believe it or not the bow/ribbon matches exactly as the green CS, but in the picture it looks like a total different color...hmmm?
One thing that I've been doing lately is embellishing the inside of the card...I'll show you on the next posts so you see what I'm talking about.

Pop It Up!

This is my take on today's SCS CAS challenge 31: use dimensionals/pop-up dots
I don't usually use stickers as embellies in my cards, but to cover my mistake on this card, I used the butterfly sticker (I had stamped a little flying bug, and didn't like the way it looked). To add a little more texture/dimension, I used my Scor-Pal and scored some lines on the top & left of the card.

Scraplings

Scraplings anyone?
Over the weekend I learned what a scrapling is and how easy it is to make. This is an opportunity to clean out your box of scraps and odd pieces of embellies,...!
A scrapling is basically made from leftover scraps from all of your paper craft projects. It measures 4"x 1 1/2". You embellish it anyway you want using odd pieces of leftover embellies,...
You can use "scraplings" as gift tags, tiny notes, magnetic bookmarks, etc...
As you cans see, I made several scraplings using SCS Limisted Supplies Challenge 236, and can't seem to stop!

Wish Upon a Starfish...

This week's featured stamper at SCS is Lori aka LMcAree. I chose this card as my inspiration. Lori's card's simplicity caught my eye. I like the way she used score lines to add dimension to her card, and the magenta color that stands out.
As an ode to summer, I changed the color scheme that to me defines summer:
yellow=summer sunshine
green=summer grass
turquoise=sea/ocean/beach

Unfortunately, Labor Day doesn't end our summer in the Valley...not for another 2 months...but we'll have cooler evenings...

Wish...

For Labor Day weekend, I plan to stamp as much as possible...so here is my second card for today. I've never actually sewn/embroidered on paper, but it wasn't as difficult as I thought. I used 2 challenges to create this card:
  1. SCS Inspiration Challenge 196; I used this Moyna bag as my inspiration
SU! CS, White ink, buttons, CB Stylized Flowers EF, beads, glue dots, paper flowers, DMC thread, corner embellishment, grosgrain ribbon, watercolor pencil

Hello Little One...

What joy...a baby boy!

My husband's first great-nephew is finally here. Mother & child are doing well! The blessed parents are in awe & the grandparents are giddy with happiness! We'll get to meet the new arrival in about 2 weeks when we go to Minneapolis! I can't wait to hold him!

I did the following challenges for this card:

  1. SCS SC241

  2. Our Creative Corner challenge: OCC Stars & Stripes Forever

SU! Wild About You & Sweet Little Sentiments, SU! More Mustard, grosgrain ribbon, star brads, SU! CS & DP, safety pin, SU! punch

Happiness...

I wasn't able to sleep last night, and decided to make a card instead. I used Our Creative Corner sketch challenge to make this card. I used SU! Rich Razzleberry & Soft Suede. The DP was from a package of assorted 6"x6" package I've had for years...
The stamped doodle is from SU! Doodle This stamp set inked in SU! Mauve Mist. The stamped image is light enough that when a message is written on the note card, it can easily be read.

The colored CS is embossed with the CB Perfectly Paisley EF, and then I sanded the embossed paper with a SU!'s sanding block. I used the sharp edge of my scissors to distressed the edges of the CS as well.

  2. SCC WT234: Sand It~I used SU! sanding block to sand the embossed paper
  3. A Spoon Full of Sugar Challenge 67 ~ Distressing: I distressed the edges

For You...

I had leftover paper from yesterday's card, so I combined that with today's SCS card sketch challenge, SC244. These colors make me happy!

Hello

I finally put together a card using 2 challenges. It is a very simple card but I'm happy with the outcome. I love SU! Bermuda Bay in color! Makes me wish I were in the Bahamas!
