Organizing and Stamping

For the last couple of days, I have been cleaning, purging, and organizing my craft room...now let's see how long it takes me to mess it up again...LOL!!!  It feels so good to be done with this chore and it actually makes it fun to work on making cards again.

While organizing my stamping stuff, I discovered that I'm absolutely out of birthday cards!  This is a huge problem for us because as soon as Christmas is over (12/27), we start celebrating birthdays in my family!  So I got busy and had to make a quick card.  This is it!  Easy and quick!!!

Chilly

After all the Christmas rush, Hubby and I had a great day!  We went to church on Christmas Eve, and after that we had a delicious dinner at Mom's place.  On Christmas morning we opened our gifts to each other and then we shared a very yummy breakfast made by moi!  For the rest of the day we simply relaxed and enjoyed the true meaning of Christmas Day!
For the last couple of days I have been playing in my craft room, and enjoying it.  I put away all of the Christmas stamps and anything related to Christmas, and then brought out all my Winter stuff!

I made this Chilly card for a card challenge called Feature Stamper over at Split Coast Stampers.  Every week one lucky person's gallery is featured, and if you would like to play along, you choose one card (or more) as inspiration, and then you make 2 or more changes to it, and create your own.
For this card I kept the same theme: Snowman and layout.  I added more layers, embossed the background using my Cuttlebugs' Snowflakes & Sledding embossing folders and a different color theme.  I did not stamp the sentiment, instead used a metal tag with the word "chilly" and added a snowflake for embellishment.
~Interior of Card~
I'm challenging myself to embellished the inside of every card I make from now on.  I have received some cards from Linda (My Little Yellow Cottage), and I simply love the creations of her cards...outside as well as the inside.  Linda has inspired me to do the same.
For this card I decided to leave it blank, that way it can be used for a birthday, thank you, or any kind of card we might need.

Some Christmas Baking

Every year for Halloween we always get a couple of pumpkins.  This year I only brought one home.  Right before Thanksgiving Hubby cuts it up and then I cook it.
I use the cooked pumpkin for Pumpkin cookies,
Pumpkin Bread, Pumpkin Pies and if there's some leftover, Hubby makes delicious Pumpkin Soup.
Hubby uses his machete to cut up...I mean massacred the poor pumpkin(s).
This was my very first cookbook ever.  I bought it for myself when I was in High School.  Whenever I'm in doubt about a recipe, I go back to this book and check it out.  There is one particular recipe that I will never try again (Russian Tea Cakes).  They just didn't turn out well.
I always use the Pumpkin Bread recipe from this Betty Crocker cookbook.  One time I strayed from this recipe, and boy was I sorry...everyone let me know!
This is the Pumpkin Cookies recipe.
For the icing or glaze, I used this recipe which is super good.

Brown Sugar Glaze:
3 TBSP. butter
½ cup packed brown sugar
4 TBSP. milk
1 cup powdered sugar

Combine butter, brown sugar, and milk in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil and then boil for 2 minutes, stirring frequently (be sure to not let it boil over). Remove from heat, and let mixture cool off. While the mixture is still slightly warm, add the powdered sugar and whisk vigorously until no lumps remain. Drizzle over pumpkin cookies.
...and I finally found a place to hang my Christmas apron.  The hanging Christmas decorated tree is a gift from our youngest nephew Jacob.

Door Prize Winner

I was the very lucky recipient of this beautiful flower sled arrangement made by Shirley!

On Saturday night my Bunco Babe Group celebrated our last annual get together of the year with a Christmas party!  This year's party was hosted by Shirley, our group leader, and we all had a wonderful time!  Her house was decorated beautifully with lots of Christmas cheer and the food was so delicious!  A good time was had by all!
I wish I had taken pics of her home, and especially of the outside of her house.  She and her husband decorate the outside of their house with a spectacular light show and with music to boot!!!

There are 12 ladies in our Bunco Group.  Shirley made these gorgeous sled arrangements, and she placed one on each table of 4 (a total of 3 tables).  Each lady at each table had to pick a number from 1-4, and the lucky number was 1, which I picked!!!  So 3 very happy Bunco Babes won!
This was the perfect gift for this small round table!!!
Thank your Shirley!

Well we all had a great time, and I would have been an extremely happy camper if I had won the Bunco big pot and also the LCR (Left Center Right) pot as well...what a greedy creature I am!!!  I think I'm on Santa's naughty list.

Book Page Christmas Ornament

For this Christmas I wanted to make some of our own Christmas ornaments.  Well...so far I've made only two!
When I saw this tutorial to make this Christmas ornament I thought to myself, "I can do this!"
I found out it was a little too much time consuming, and a little difficult on making the little cones and using Scotch tape at the same time.  I think it might have been my fat little fingers that got in the way.  I'm not discourage by it though, and will try to make some more during the year, and hopefully with more practice I can maneuver better the little cones and tape!
 This always happens to me.
When I think I was done with decorating, I found a big tin full of old Christmas ornaments.  What to do?  But of course fill every little open cranny of this pine cone arrangement on our coffee table with colorful Christmas balls!
The silver star was also an afterthought.  I bought it at the Dollar
Store and had put it away for later use...
and this was later.

Christmas Card for Mom

I made this quick & easy recycled card using two old Christmas cards (commercial).  The tree image is from one card and the sentiment from another one.
When I say quick, it means that it was pretty quick cutting out the layers of card stock and designer paper, and embossing the green card stock.  The part that took me awhile was creating the layout of the tree and sentiment!  I tried out different layouts, and after many trys I gave up, and came back the following day & voila...phew!!!
I really like how the plaid designer paper compliments the ornaments on the Christmas tree.

Star Ornament & Nutcrackers

While I was on my kick of making book page wreaths, I came across this great tutorial and learned how to make this beautiful Star Ornament.  It was pretty easy to make!
I made the start ornament bigger than the directions, and because of that it was a little too BIG for our tree, so I hung it here, near my Nutcracker collection.
I discovered this recipe called Nutcracker, and I hope that this Christmas I will finally get a chance to make it.
I had this extra basket which I filled with some of our Christmas/winter books for when some of the munchkins show up.
Do you ever put things away and can't find them?
I did and it's absolutely driving me crazy!!!  I can't find several Christmas children's books, especially a book called Miracle on 34th Street illustrated by Tomie de Paola!!!  Argh!!!
I have a feeling I will come across these books right after Christmas is over!!!

Candy Cane Card

This is one of my favorite recycled Christmas card!
I saved the candy cane image from an old card to create a new card.  I then layered coordinating color card stock to attached image to.
The punched scalloped edges was a last minute decision.  I was getting pretty creative along the way as I made more recycled cards.  I even surprised myself!

Baker's Rack Christmas Cheer

My baker's rack in our dining room is set for Christmas!
Eat, Drink and be Merry free printable by Made With Love.
I wanted lots of white and red on each shelf, and to keep it simple.
On the very top shelf, I placed a cake plate (on it's side so we could see the gorgeous poinsettia design) between the lit candles.
What's so nice about this snowmen shelf is that it will stay the same throughout the winter season.
I always struggle with the bottom shelf decor wise though; so I always keep these baskets filled with pine cones, pomander balls, wine corks, and seasonal silk flowers.  This Christmas season, I filled the smaller basket with lots of old Christmas ornaments collected over the years.
I especially like the "night look" of my baker's rack every evening!

Christmas Bedroom

This is the first time I truly have added a touch of Christmas cheer to our bedroom.
I hung a Christmas wreath and added a red yo-yo throw quilt at the foot of the bed.
Back in November I found this yo-yo quilt at Redesign Goodwill.
Hubby placed the white ceramic pitcher & bowl on the little round table...(I had left it bare).  His big contribution to our bedroom decor!
We usually use this table to place our phones & Kindle reader while charging, loose change, and other miscellaneous items at the end of a long day.  The Longaberger hanging basket above the table holds our phone and Kindle chargers.
I covered up the floral seat of the chair with a blue crochet afghan and added some Christmasy pillows.  I picked up the afghan at a garage sale.  Lately, collecting crochet or knitted afghans is my new quest in life.

I added a long table runner to the dresser and kept the top cleared of all my schotskys (spelling?)!

At this point, I am pretty pleased with how our bedroom looks.

Recycled Christmas Tags

Yesterday, I really worked hard on finally getting all of my recycled tags done!
No more last minute tag making!!!
Basket full of recycled tags to share with Mom & Sis!
I used Christmas cards from past Christmases to create them!
I even found some old tags I had made.
I used every little scrap of the Christmas cards...even the sentiments were made into tags.  Why waste?
Bits and pieces of scrap turned into tags.
I also used most of my leftover yarn, twine and ribbon for the tags.
I was thinking that I might have to iron some the ribbon out...hmm...
I used some of the saved baker's twine from our local bakery.
BTW...they have the most delicious cannolis!!!

Santa,
I Really Did Try!!!
