Last summer I fell in love with Hexie Quilting, and now I'm even card making with hexies!
I've been admiring some hexie cards posted on SplitCoastStampers, and couldn't wait to make one myself. While organizing my "stamping closet", I discovered I had this Creative Memories hexagon punch (2 size hexies in 1 punch), and...tah-dah!

So far I have been good about adding a little pizazz to inside of cards!
I am so very happy spending time in my craft room!!!
The best thing so far is using stamp sets, embellishments and other accessories for the very first time. I get this "retail shopping therapy rush" feeling!
In creating this card, for the very first time I used: Stampin' Up's Posy Punch stamp set & one of Cuttlebug's Iron Works border embossing folder. No need to go shopping for more crafting stuff...just peruse my own small little store!
One of my favorite Stampin' Up colors is Rose Red, which I chose to make this clean & simple card.

The challenge for this card was to translate a New Year's resolution or goal into a card.
The challenge for this card was to "speak foreign". Most of my stamp sentiments/accessories are in English! So that was my challenge, but luckily for me I have this multi-lingualThanks embossing folder or Merci!!! I chose to highlight/frame Merci to meet the "speaking foreign" challenge.
Lavender Lace happens to be my favorite color, but for some reason when I use it, I don't like how it transfers into paper. Maybe it's the name I like!
White on White cards are actually very challenging in my opinion, but I'm finally getting the knack for it.
So far...this is my best and favorite white on white card!
I didn't plan on making a Valentine's card this early, but it's ready for the Hubs!

I don't know if you can actually see that I layered vellum over the inside of card (for sentiment writing or stamping). I did test writing with a black gel pen on the vellum before placing it on the interior of card. No surprises for later!
I actually made this winter white on white card before I made the above card. I really struggled with it, and I still am not too sure if I like it. I think it's missing something though.

I love how the interior of the winter card turned out. I layered vellum over the wintry looking designer paper, too. I better mail it out before winter is over!
What to make when you are given fresh picked DATES?
But of course...Date Orange Bars!
The combination of fresh orange juice and zest with the dates is absolutely delicious...not to mention the aroma!
I used oranges from our tree for this recipe.
My nephew's girlfriend's parents have a ranch in Yuma where they grow and raise all kinds of things. We are lucky and grateful to be recipients of their bounty. Every time they come to the Phoenix area, they bring with them all kinds of fresh vegetable/fruits to share with family and friends.
As of right now dates are in season. So here I am baking with dates and trying to find more recipes that call for dates.
If you have any recipes that you would like to share with me, I would really appreciate it.
Not one of my favorite words at all. I have never truly enjoyed exercising...who does?!? But after a second time hearing from my doctor that "30 minutes a day of walking, 5 times per week" it's good for me...it was time.
What really prompted me to go back to the gym is in hopes that I would be able to get a good night's sleep. I never had issues with sleep before. It's the worst feeling not being able to sleep!!! I have tried everything to trick me back into sleep, but nothing worked.
So far so good and I'll be honest, I'm actually enjoying it! It clears my mind, it makes me get out of the house for a couple of hours, see/meet other people, and at the end of my routine, I feel really good!!!
This is the other reason as well!!!
I want to make exercising fun by not overdoing it and getting bore by it! I'm alternating my exercise routine between the treadmill (random setting), elliptical machine (random setting) and some upper body weights.
We're lucky enough that we have several nice Rec Centers in our Community with heated pools/spas and all other kinds of amenities, that I have not been taking part of.
Yesterday was such a gorgeous beautiful sunny warm day, that I treated myself to dipping in the pool and catching some rays...of course right after my workout.
It was heavenly!
This was our sunset last night! It was breathtaking!
I took this picture right before we left for dinner. We met my sister and her family for a really good Chinese dinner and had a really wonderful time.
Little simple pleasures in life make my life whole!
This stamp image is one of my all time favorites. It's from Stampin' Up! called Summer by the Sea.
Needles to say, it may be my favorite stamp but I just don't like how I work with it...I find coloring a bit difficult! My goal for this year is to take a Copics class and learn to color properly.
The challenge for this card was to create a stampscape; and this was my first attempt at this new technique (for me).
To create a stampscape you must sponge and stamp layers of ink to create a beautiful scene. I learned from this experience that I must practice, practice and continue to practice to achieve the right stampscape!!!
It's time for me to sit down and write a couple of thank you cards, and mailed them out before the month is over. I can do it...I can do it!!!
The challenge in making this card was to use a neutral color + one other color = monochromatic.
My choice of color is Island Indigo. I think I chose this color because with this cold I wish I were on a sunny beach. For the first time I used this stamp set called Silhouette Sentiments. I'm glad I embossed the background using the Flower Garden embossing folder. It ties it all together.
I'm so glad that you came to visit!! DH and I have been married for 28 years. Hubby and I are now retired and enjoying life. We winter in Sun City, AZ, & spend summers in Golden Valley, MN. This blog will chronicle our adventures (& misadventures) as a retired couple.
