Swap: 6x6 Grillin' It Up A-Z Recipes

I signed up for this FATHER'S DAY 6x6 grilling recipe swap over at SCS. I thought it would be fun to do an A-Z 6x6 Recipe Book and give it as a gift.

The requirements for this swap:

  1. 6x6 minimum of 2 layers quality cardstock~I used Bazill 12x12 Textured Cardstock "Hollywood"; it has the texture of lemon skin; SU! Blue & White cardstock, Designer Paper
  2. Minimum of 2 embellishments, more always welcome~Pastel Buttercream Jute twine by All My Memories Goodies; I made the lemon embellishments using SU! Tart & Tangy lemon stamped in SU! Summer Sun ink, which I then glazed with Clear Dimensional Magic to give it shiny wet look; when dried I handcut each lemon and mounted one slice on foam dots for a 3D effect; as a background theme, I stamped lemons all over the recipe and background
  3. Your designated letter stamped or somewhere on the recipe card~L~ I used my Big Sister's, Pat Honc, reveal gift: Daisy Hill clear ABC stamps; I stamped the L in SU! Glorious Green ink; I also used SU! Totally Tabs stamp set
  4. Anything that can be done on the grill!!!!!~Lemon Rosemary Grilled Chicken
  5. Please sign your recipe so we know who to thank for the great recipe~Marzipan

One done, 27 to go!!!

The Ohlson's Backyard Nature

Yesterday afternoon while I was grilling delicious pork loin chops basted in a butter lemon sauce, and roasted Yukon potatoes drenched in Olive Oil, hummingbirds were zooming by around me to get to their feeder and drink their sweet simple sugar nectar that I prepare for them. It is with awe and admiration how these tiny creatures hover and speed by around us with such precision.
Well this Hummingbird stopped long enough to get a quick drink and allowed me to take a quick pic!

Fab Organza

I chose white organza ribbon.
I've had this stamp set for the longest time, but never created anything with it because I would become very overwhelmed by all of the coloring and so much detail in the image. I conquered my fear, and decided to create this card for Fab's weekly Christmas card challenge! I used SU! watercolor pencils to color the image, and a Sakura Quickie Glue pen to add the Crystal Snow glitter.
To continue the snow theme on the stamped image, I Cuttlebugged the background with a snowflake Cuttlebug embossing folder. On the organza ribbon, I glued an epoxy snowflake sticker.

The "Hub Grilling Meister" at work (picture taken previously)

Lemon Rosemary Grilled Chicken

I signed up for a grilling recipe swap over at SCS: 6x6 Grillin' It Up A-Z Recipes. I chose the letter L, and have to make 27 +1 (+1 is for the hostess) 6x6 recipe cards. I signed up to make Lemon Rosemary Grilled Chicken. I have done recipe swaps asking for 6-8 cards, but never 28! So this is a big challenge!!!

I love to cook, but grilling is not my forte. Hubby is the "Grilling Meister" in our home, and I had decided to pay closer attention to his grilling expertise, so that I can duplicate, if not master this culinary art!

I did my research on grilling chicken, which is not that easy, since poultry takes a lot longer to grill, and heat is very important as well. So after reading several grilled chicken recipes, going through my extensive cookbook library, my 3 choke full recipe boxes, searching the many cooking websites, ... I was finally ready to put my knowledge onto good use.

But first, I have to admit that Hubby started the fire on his Weber Grill. You would think that the first thing for me to learn would be how to start a fire on the grill! Well, I never was a Girl Scout, and Papi was the Grilling Meister at home while I was growing up. Besides what are Hubbies for??? Thank you Tom!

  • 1/4 cup canola oil
  • 1/4 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon Natural Stone Ground Mustard (Plochman's my fave)
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • Zest of a lemon
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
  • 3 crushed and minced cloves of garlic
  • 3 tablespoons chopped onion
  • 1 tablespoon fresh chopped rosemary
  • 2 teaspoons fresh chopped thyme
  • Salt & Pepper to taste (I use coarse sea salt & freshly ground pepper)

Combine all of the above the ingredients until emulsified. Set aside.

  • 6 chicken breasts or 8 chicken thighs/legs (bone-in & skin~more flavor in my opinion)

Place chicken pieces in a 1-gallon size plastic bag. Pour marinade over chicken making sure all pieces are well covered. Refrigerate 3-8 hours and turn bag couple of times so that all chicken pieces are well marinated.

Preheat an outdoor grill for medium heat and lightly oil grate. Pour the reserved lemon and rosemary mixture into a bowl for basting.
Grill covered chicken for 20-25 minutes on each side depending on your choice of chicken meat, basting with rosemary and lemon mixture. I placed the bone side down to grill first. Remove chicken from grill when juices run clear.

FYI: When I cook, I tend to add a little extra of my favorite seasoning or ingredient

Sharing Good Times with Friends

I am not a big collectibles fan, but when it comes to Charming Tails by Fitz & Floyd, I can't resist! This "love affaire" with Charming Tails was born about 9 years ago when Jean McKinney-Quick, co-worker, presented me with my very first figurine (which I'll post on later date for you to enjoy).
The reason I am so attracted to these figurines and can't have enough is due to all of the wonderful detail, liveliness and color. To me, each figurine evokes such innocence, life and peacefulness that it brings a smile and happiness to my life.
I have a handful of these "charming" figurines that reflect something about me.

You Are Chirping Birds

You are a very caring person. You especially feel for innocent beings, like animals and children.

You are keyed in to the world and very peaceful. You believe that everyone is connected.

You remain focused and in the moment. You are not easily distracted.

You have a good memory, especially for things that you hear. You listen carefully.

Go to the 4th folder & choose the 4th picture, then tag 4 people.
This is Arleen, my "Bestest Friend". We celebrated her 40...ish birthday at work a day late. We were all set and ready to celebrate her birthday on February 12, but she was out really sick. A round of the flu went around at her house, and lucky her, she was the last recipient of it! Poor thing! She's holding a cute frog Christmas ornament birthday gift. She loves frogs!

Spring Break

I have taken this week as vacation time from work. Tom and I decided to go on a road trip to Vegas. We left Sunday morning and came back yesterday afternoon. Vegas was fine and we had a great room at Rio, but no big winners here. How much can you win when you play the penny slot machines!!! My favorite casinos are Ceasar's, the Venetian, Paris, and of course my very own most favorite The Bellagio. I love walking through the Bellagio and admire Chihuly's glass artwork. Impressive!
Our road trip to Vegas was perfect, except that it was so very windy. I think we had winds at 60+mph, which makes it a little difficult maneuvering the car.
The following are pictures from inside the car on our way to Vegas:
I love open spaces and love desert landscapes!
Some rocky rolling hills/mountains...
Right before we drove through some heavy rain & strong winds...I wish you were able to smell the desert when it rains...Mmm!!!

Fab Swirls and Gems

I had fun making this very simple card with Fab's theme~Swirls & Gems. I treated myself with a new set of clear stamps by Inkadinkado Dot Flourishes set. The card comes from my SCS Big Sister's reveal package I received this week. Thanks Pat!
The stamp image sentiment is from SU! (I don't remember the stamp set's name). I used Real Red & Glorious Green markers to color the letters on the stamp, which I then "huffed & puffed" before stamping onto white cardstock. I Cuttlebugged the red strip of cardstock with Swirls CB folder. Now for the gems, I glued "bangle bling" gems from Michael's clearance bins.

Paper Embellishment

Challenge: make a flower embellishment out of paper
I used my scallop punch to create the flower, and Mojo Monday card sketch 77.
I punched one solid scallop circle & one DP scallop circle to create my paper flower. I then used my very sharp scissors cut a slit between scallops to create the petals. I raised every other petal on the DP flower to give it a 3D effect. I am very pleased with the results!

Fab Stripes

Fab's Big Christmas Card Challenge Week #11~Stripes
Just knowing that "our scorching summer" is just around the corner, it makes me yearn for Christmas even more! Luckily, I can get a taste of Christmas once a week by participating in Fab's Christmas card challenges.
The stamp is from a Michael's Christmas stamp tag set given to me by my SCS Big Sister Shari! Thank you Shari!
Green Rhinestones, SU! Old Olive ink stamp pad, striped DP, SU! CS & textured CS, circle punch

Thank you Pat!

A huge "THANK YOU" goes to my SCS Divine Secret Sibling Big Sister Nature Lover or Pat, aka MomCats! She has absolutely spoiled me rotten, but the most important thing is getting to know her, and to continue a lifetime of friendship! BTW she hails from the great state of TEXAS!
Take a look at her "reveal card"! Isn't it gorgeous and so appropriate for the season~Spring! The flowers are attached to a tag with a "reveal" message!
Take a look at my "Happy Mail Reveal Package"!
Dear Pat, thank you so much!

Patchy Card

Sideways View
While visiting Kath's Blog, I came across a challenge she did for Daring Cardmakers . The challenge is to create a patchwork card by using scraps of paper. I have been dying to create this kind of card, and what a great way to use up all of those little pieces of paper that I keep saving just in case...
I've had the square cutout pieces of paper since who knows when! The stamp was given to me by my friend Jackie. Jackie is very good at cleaning out her stamping room several times a year. She is one of those rare kind of people who have no qualms at letting go of things, which is a great thing for me!!!
Along with this challenge I did 365 Cards week Day3 challenge: Button-Bow-Ribbon

Fab Tree

I had never used this SU! 2-step Solemn Stillness stamp set. I didn't do the 2-step stampin', but decided to make it as simple as possible. I heat embossed the tree & sentiment with Agean Silver embossing powder. While going through my stash of cardstock I found this metallic silver paper by The Paper Company. It was a nice surprise! For an extra touch, I used my silver metallic marker and traced all around the card's edge.
Silver brads

Fab Circles

I got this stamp over a year ago from Michael's (after Christmas sale). I used it before in another card, but wasn't too happy with the outcome. I am pleased to say that I'm very happy with it this time. It's a stamp that has to have complete spotlight! The name of this stamp is appropriately named for this challenge ~ Merry Christmas Circle. I stamped it in White Craft and heat embossed with Snowy Embossing Powder by Stamp La Jolla. I added a half pearl from SU! Pretties Kit right in the center. To finish off my card I did Courtney's challenge for this week. Her challenge is to use a bow... any bow.
Hampton Art Stamp: Merry Christmas Circle, SU! CS, ribbon, DP

Fab Red

A tad late with keeping up with Fab's Big Xmas Card Challenge. Whew! Here's my card for week #7
I love SU! Real Red cardstock! It's so red! I embossed the vellum & green diagonal strips with Cuttlebug's Snowflakes embossing folder. The Santa image is from SU!'s Holiday Woodcuts, which is a tag set.

Pretty in Pink

I really didn't think I was going to be able to make at least one card today. This is my last card for tonight.
  1. Sketch Saturday : Sketch #41
  2. Spoon Full of Sugar: #41 Torn Edges technique
  3. Color Throwdown: #32~Pretty in Pink, Barely Banana, Regal Rose
  4. Arty Girlz: #74 Butterflies

I had a horribly long busy & crazy week at work, and didn't get to stamp all week long. I do believe I went through withdrawals!

SU! Garden Whimsy stamp set, Pretty in Pink & Ruby Red ink stamp pad, sticker rhinestones, ribbon, brads, paper & silk flowers, SU CS, DP, foam dots

Accenting with Dots

It was fun making this very simple card using two challenges from SCS. It's nice to create cards that are simple and clean for a change.
  1. CAS04: accenting with dots; I chose to dot the background of the card using a SU! Itty-Bitty dot stamp
  2. LSC210: create a card in under 30 minutes! Yikes! I did it in 25 minutes!
SU! Itty-Bitty & Friendship Flowers stamp sets, Bliss Blue & Basic Black stamp pads, ribbon, brads, glue, CB flower Ef Border for inside of card

Sweet One

Someone I know is expecting, and decided to make a baby card. I was inspired to make this card using this week's Arty Girlz's color challenge: blue & yellow. Along with the color challenge I used from Getting Creative with Ann's challenge: Time to Get Sketchy. The sketch is from SCS Sketch Challenge 38.

I just hope is a baby boy! Parents have decided not to know if the baby will be a girl or boy.
I Cuttlebugged the inside of the card using a CB border embossing folder. Very rarely do I stamp the inside of cards; I like to leave the inside of cards blank.
