Thrifty Thursday

I just came across a new blog (to me) called Tales from Bloggeritaville. Isn't that the coolest name! It puts me in a very happy mood, and I immediately want to play Jimmy Buffet's music and drink an icy Margarita!
Leigh hosts a weekly "meme" called Thrifty Thursdays where you get a chance to showcase a very special thrifty treasure. This is the perfect opportunity for me to share my great finds that I find at least once a week!!!

A week ago I stopped at a garage sale and found this dish for a $1! I love dishes/bowls by the way...

Take a look at this gorgeous little candlelight! It will go perfectly with my Thanksgiving dishes!

I also found this ashtray for a $1! We don't smoke, but we had company last Friday, and one of our guest is a smoker, and as you know a true hostess with the mostess must make their guests feel welcome!

And of course I just had to get the milk glass bowl which I can actually use for a floral arrangement...I can see daisies. The glass butter dish is nothing great, but needed one. The last one we had was broken by Dear "Hubs".
All of these thrifty treasures were just for a $1.

Table Top Tuesday

It's Tuesday and it's time for Marty's Table Top Tuesday at A Stroll Thru Life!!!

It was time to remove all traces of winter decor in our dining room.
I arranged a little "pre-Easter" cloche vignette on our sideboard. I used my handy cheese dome and a milk glass plate to create a cloche. Inside the cloche you can see a glass Easter egg and bunny that my sister gave me several years ago for one Easter celebration.

For a while I was collecting deviled egg dishes, and this is a pretty one I found at an antique store called A Mad Hatter downtown Glendale, AZ. That reminds's been a while since I've been there...

Sorry about the bad picture. I tried different ways of taking a better picture of the stained glass plate. It has a beautiful tulip design. I'm not too sure about the pears placement??? I told you...not a good pic :-(

The crystal lamps were another great find at another local antique store...I can't remember the name of the store, but it was in Phoenix...
I wished I had taken a closer picture of the clock. It's very old and belonged to Hubby's grandfather. It used to be in Hubby's grandfather's law office so long ago...
I love family heirlooms!

Easter Banner

My plans for this 4-day weekend (my Spring Break at work) was to stamp away...well it didn't happen until last night!
I made this Easter banner using different Spring/Easter theme scrapbooking paper. I used the top note diecut with my Big Shot machine for the first time!

Over the years I've been collecting/buying all kinds of embellishments which came in handy in making my banner. I used Stampin' UP's scallop trim punch for the top and bottom of each panel.

The letters were a gift from my friend Kristi: SU! Headline Alphabet

I'm thinking of giving this banner to my friend Arleen and making another one. I'm sure when I finish the second banner I will want to give it to someone else.
Why can't I ever keep something for myself?

Table Top Tuesday

I couldn't wait for today to share with you my second table top!!! This is one of my most favorite collectibles - milk glass!

...and to think it all started out with one small little purchase in St. Paul, MN, several years ago.
What attracted me to it was the translucent
milky glass.

On the second shelf of this unit, I display some of my favorite pieces of milk glass that I have been lucky enough to come across.

I filled the plates/dishes with Hubby's collection of seashells from Rocky Point Mexico (Puerto PeƱasco on the Gulf of CA).

The cookie jar was a great find at a garage sale many years ago. I had not seen one like it before. Unfortunately, Hubby dropped something heavy on it, and cracked the top (it has a hairline cut on the lid).

I been expanding my collection by trying to look out for unique pieces. As a matter of fact, on Saturday morning I stopped a neighbor's garage sale, and as I was reaching for this candle light votive this "lady" reached for it as I was going for it!!! I couldn't believe my rude...but I have learn my lesson! From now on I will go for the kill...LOL!

Please make sure you stop by Marty's Stroll Thru Life and pay a visit to some wonderful bloggers participating in today's Table Top Tuesday.

One More Tassel

Tassel #2
My plan was to finish all 3 eggs by the end of this week, but of course didn't! I finally finish Tassel #2 this morning. I made this one thinking of see her birthday is tomorrow, and I was thinking that she might like it...I hope...I'm taking her out for dinner to celebrate her birthday tomorrow evening.

So for today it's on display in the living room.

I think it looks better hanging from our bedroom door. If I put my mind to it, maybe I'll finish the last egg today, and that will be mine. Last week's tassel is on its way to Kansas!

Table Top Tuesday

I am participating in my very first Table Top Tuesday hosted by Marty at a Stroll Thru Life.
I'm not very good at arranging vignettes...I add too much or not enough.. So I'm willing to practice until I get it right. When we moved to this house, Hubby wanted a change...MINIMALIST! Very hard for me to follow this decor...I love pretty things and collections! I was willing to compromise as long as I had one room where I could have the things I love and make me happy.

I have this entertainment/computer unit that I get to decorate in my CRAFT ROOM. For my first Table Top Tuesday I chose the first top shelf.

I was given this picnic basket by a family member about a year ago...thank you Faye! It's filled with tons of ribbon for all of my card/crafting projects. I love baskets!

Since Spring is in the air, Easter comes to mind. I placed a Longaberger basket that I won as a door prize at Sue's Longaberger Open House almost 2 years ago. The tray is from the Dollar Store before it was the Dollar Store...was it Dollar Tree? The frog is from a local garage sale. The glass beads are from a very long time ago when I was first married. Hubby and I loved shopping at Pier Imports...when they had more unique items and cheaper.

Make sure you stop at Marty's and visit more awesome bloggers participating in Table Top Tuesday...see you next week!

I was introduced to beads by making lanyards. After making several for myself and for co-workers, I had lots of leftover beads. To use up the rest of the beads I decided to make jewelry for myself. Then friends like my necklaces, and I had to keep adding beads to my stash. I tell you...crafting is a vicious cycle!!!

I made this necklace for a co-worker's birthday. She is not into big chunky jewelry, so I tried to make it as simple as possible. I used glass beads and silver.

This necklace and set of earrings was my very first attempt at making jewelry. My birthstone is topaz and I love pearls.
I wish I had taken pictures of all the other necklaces and lanyards I've given away.
Live and learn!

Easter Tassel

Thanks to Marty's Thread Spool Tassel Tutorial I was able to create my very own tassel! I had the great pleasure to actually admire one in real life at our AZ Blogger Luncheon last October. Ever since then I have been wanting to make one myself.
Thank you Marty for the great tutorial!

Also, I had been following Kristen's gorgeous tassels. If you have a chance stop by her blog to admire her great artwork. Thanks Kristen for the great inspiration!

I was at Michael's on Friday during my lunch hour when I came upon some Easter egg ornaments...and right there and then the light came on...tassels! This is one of two more to go...

A couple of months ago I had stopped at a neighborhood garage sale, and bought a box full of sewing notions for almost nothing. When I got home I opened my box and found a treasure of old wooden thread spools! Oh my, so many more tassels!!!

Spring is in the Air

We are so lucky we are having such great weather...and this time of year everything starts to bloom...which is so unfortunate for us who suffer from allergies! Life is definitely not perfect!

This pot is so lucky to be in bloom, since it was spared by our so adorable very hungry bunnies and quail! That's right quail.
This particular pot survived our pesky critters, and I have already cut it back once!

These pots are finally blooming. I wish you could smell the sweet scent!
This weekend if weather permits it, I'm spending as much time as possible outdoors!

Flower Pot Surprise

Saturday morning was cold and rainy and so beautiful to me! I decided to get out of the house and drive around in hopes to find a garage sale or an estate sale...but to my surprise there wasn't one!!!
I just couldn't go home empty handed, so I ended up at our local charity stores: Eve's Home, Lutheran thrift store, and others...and wasn't sorry I did!!!

I found this glass cloche for a $1. At first I had no idea how I would use it, but remembered all of those great vignettes arranged by the awesome bloggers who participated in Marty's cloche party.
When I got home with my new find, I searched high and low for something that would go with my new cloche.
I've been collecting Charming Tails figurines for almost 10 years now. I found one that fit perfectly to display. This one is called Flower Pot Surprise. I grouped it together with this candle holder from one of Avon's specials from several years ago. It actually plays soothing nature sounds. My favorite is ocean waves.

I'm learning to see things in a very different way now.

The doily was a gift from my mother-in-law. I wish I knew where she acquired it from...
