Accomplished Goal

My sweet Jack sporting his 4th of July scarf!
I set myself a goal for the month of July.
It was to post daily, and I did it!
At first it wasn't too hard, but as the month went along, I became so busy that I had to force myself to take time out and sit down and post my goings and comings.
As I reviewed my posts for this month, I was pretty impressed by how many things I accomplished.
I hope the month of August will be a productive one as well.  I have so many things going on, and I just pray that I can get them all done before cold weather gets here.
I've been working on building a small patio in the backyard; getting a garden plot ready to transplant peonies in the fall, and creating a fern and hosta garden under the pine trees (transplant and divide)...and last but not least lots of mulching!!!
I'm very thankful that I am in good health and able to enjoy and do the things that I love.

Blooming Prairie Flowers

Last Sunday, Hubby and I took a walk around Cedar Lake.  It was such a perfect morning.  The weather was cool and it had just rained.  Everything looked so fresh and the smell of fresh rain was divine.
On one of the lake's trails, we got to enjoy the blooming beauty of prairie plants.
Now that I'm are retired, I have the time to actually see things.  Before, I was always felt harassed and out of time, because I had other daily/pending things that needed my attention.
Now, I don't live my life by the clock and take pleasure in the simple things in my daily life.
These are some of the pictures we took with our Iphone, so that when we got home, we would be able to identify them.

Girlz Day & WIP #2

Ladies lunch and shopping is the best way of spending a day.
Especially in this great summer weather we're having!
That was my Monday. The SIL & I left home and ended up in Excelsior, MN.
On the way there, we first made a pit stop at Skeins to check out what is new in yarn.
SALE...need I say more!
This is DK yarn and I haven't decided yet what I will be making with it.
I also quickly ran over to Hancock's to get a few fat quarters to continue working on my pinkish hexagon quilt ~ WIP #1
In Excelsior, we ended up at another yarn store (Lakeside Yarn) and I got more yarn!!!  On SALE, too...I had to get it!!!
This is a nice cotton yarn.  I never have worked with it.
I'm planning on making a small granny square baby blanket ~ WIP#3.
Our lunch was very good.  I can't remember the name of  the place.  I had a Turkey Brie with sliced apples kind of sandwich, and it was super good.  I'm thinking of re-creating it at home one of these days.
Time went so fast, that we didn't get a chance to really browse through all of the cute little shops there.
We'll just have to go back!

The Perfect Spot for A Fern

I have always wanted a lush Boston Fern for the home.
Last week I came home with one from the grocery store.
This table was perfect for it!
The table had nothing on it because our kitties love to lay there and soak the sun up and look out the window.  Every time they would jump up on it, anything on top of the table was dump on the floor!
Not anymore!!!  The fern takes over the table completely leaving no room for our naughty kitties!
I mist it twice a day and make sure the pot is moist.
So far, I think I'm doing a good job, since the fern is looking very well and still lush!

Enjoying Summer & WIP #1

So far this summer has been absolutely wonderful!
I have adjusted to being retired and having my very own schedule to do what I please!!!
So far I have several WIPs (works in progress) and hopefully before the summer is over, I will have completed most of them...if weather permits (rainy, muggy & hot, or tons of mosquitoes).
I have set aside working on a filet crochet tablecloth to work on making a pinkish hexagon quilt by hand.  It works pretty fast and keeps me busy while watching TV.  Unfortunately, I have to run to the fabric store and get more assorted pinkish fabric to continue working on it.
I just hope that while at the store, I don't get distracted and find something else to make.
Although, I've been wanting to make a dress for myself, and since I'll be shopping for fabric maybe I can...

Christmas in July 2014

Merry Christmas in July!!!
I am joining Natasha ~Keeping the Christmas Spirit Alive 365, for a Christmas in July party!
What I enjoy most about Christmas, besides celebrating Baby Jesus' birthday, is baking Christmas Cookies!
I would like to share a Christmas past post of one our favorite Christmas cookie~
Melting Moments
These cookies are a great hit with the Ohlson Family, and now with the Murillo Family! Jan, my husband's sister-in-law, is an AMAZING great cook and baker! She was very nice in sharing this recipe with me. Melting Moments are a very fragile cookie that literally melts in your mouth! Yum Yum...!!! I made a double batch of these cookies to share with my family for New Year's Eve. I sprinkled each cookie with green sugar sprinkles in hopes that the New Year brings us Life, Health and of course $$$!
This plate of cookies are Hubbies'...hands off!

Melting Moments
Ingredients for cookies:
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/3 cup confectioner's sugar
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
Ingredients for icing:
  • 3 ounces cream cheese
  • 1 cup confectioner's sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 drops red food coloring (or your desired food coloring, colored sugar sprinkles, etc...)
  1. Cream butter, slowly add cornstarch and 1/3 cup confectioner's sugar; beat til fluffy. Stir in flour with wooden spoon (very soft dough). Cover and chill 1 hour.
  2. Preheat over to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C).
  3. Roll dough into 24, 1 inch balls. I used a small cookie scoop from Pampered Chef. Place 1 and 1/2 inches apart on ungreased sheet. Press a slight indentation on top of each cookie. bake for 10-12 minutes until firm, not brown. Cool, top with icing.
To Make Icing:
  1. Blend cream cheese and 1 cup powdered sugar til smooth. Mix in vanilla or 1/4 teaspoon of another extract of your choice, and a few drops of food coloring. Mix well.

Enjoy and make sure you always leave cookies & milk for Santa!

Filet Crochet Dresser Scarf

Back in May, I finished working on a filet crochet dresser scarf.
I really love how it turned out and it looks beautiful on my dresser!
Manela ~ Crochet Em Revista ~ shares beautiful crochet patterns.  I used this pattern to make mine.
It wasn't difficult at all, but it was eye straining to follow the chart pattern!
This is Hubby's dresser and hopefully by the end of this summer, I will finish making a matching scarf.
My goal for the end of this summer is to hopefully finish re-doing our bedroom.
So far, Hubby has painted the room, and we got a queen size bed to share instead of twin beds...LOL...Lucy and Rickie!!!

My goal for this month was to post on a daily basis!!!

I hope I can fix this glitch asap...

Summer House Sign

I made this summer house sign all by myself!!!
I had been wanting one for our summer home here in MN.
I was inspired by this sign I found on Etsy, and was ready to purchase it for $85...yikes!!!

Luckily for me, while rummaging through the basement, I found a barrel full of wood my late father-in-law had collected.  I went through the barrel and found a great piece of wood that would become the perfect sign.
I gave it a good sanding and cleaning.
I got the letters at Michaels on sale.  The only letters that were available were in black, so I painted them in white...problem solved...and...
I used a pop tab and glued it to the back for hanging...easy peasy!
I hung it up in our dining room to remind us that we are very lucky to be retired so early and enjoying life.
I did have a heck of a time getting a good picture of our dining room that wouldn't come out so dark...frustrating!!!
