Good Read

is a historical fiction novel set in Germany during World War II.
This is a very complicated story that tells about a beautiful young German mother and what she did to protect her daughter.  The difficult and ugly choices she made to survive the dangers of wartime Germany and the shame she endured for her choices.
A lot of books deal with stories and tragedies of the Jews (as they should); however, this story tells the sacrifices and occurrences of what everyday normal German citizens went through during WWII.  Even though these citizens may not have gone to camps, rations and the cruelty that they had to endure at the hands of the SS for their country was incomprehensible.
Even though it was a difficult topic to read, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and couldn't it put down.
